Stage from Cañaveral to Galisteo: An Attractive Journey on the Camino de Santiago
The stage from Cañaveral to Galisteo is one of the most picturesque on the Via de la Plata, part of the Camino de Santiago. On this route, pilgrims will enjoy a combination of rural paths, natural landscapes, and small villages rich in history. Below, we outline each step of this stage so you can plan your day efficiently.
Start of the Stage: Cañaveral
The route begins in Cañaveral, a small and charming village that marks the start of a journey filled with history and natural beauty. From here, we follow the track leading to the Hermitage of Santiago, located a few kilometers from the village center. From this point, we begin the ascent towards Puerto de los Castaños.
Ascent to Puerto de los Castaños
From the hermitage, we take the ascending track, which will first lead us to the "firebreak," an area of great natural interest, before reaching the television repeater. From here, we continue along the track until we reach the road, where we turn right, passing a hotel along the way. This section is ideal for those who enjoy the tranquility of the countryside.
Route to Grimaldo
Following the yellow arrows of the Camino de Santiago, we arrive at a gate that diverts us onto a track descending parallel to the Roman road. As we proceed, we pass another stream and continue along the path until we reach Grimaldo, a small village that represents the typical rural landscape of the Via de la Plata.
Towards Cuatro Términos and the Riolobos Dam
We leave Grimaldo and continue along the track, crossing the road towards Holguera. We proceed along paths surrounded by estates and, upon reaching Cuatro Términos, descend to the metal fence, turning to the right. From here, we continue along the path until we reach the Riolobos dam, a prominent point in this stage of the journey.
Descent towards Galisteo
Continuing along the road for a kilometer, we turn left onto a path that leads us to a water channel. This stretch of the Camino de Santiago is perfect for enjoying the peace and beauty of the landscapes. After crossing the Sapo stream, we continue along the Roman road until we arrive in Galisteo, the final destination of this stage.
