From Valdesalor to Cáceres: The Path Along the Road

We depart from Valdesalor and continue along the N-630 road, where the Camino de Santiago and the road run together for a stretch. We pass by Puerto de las Camellas and leave behind the asphalt, taking a straight track that leads us to the Hermitage of Espíritu Santo. Continuing along this path, we finally reach the city of Cáceres, following the Camino de Santiago signs.

Should You Visit Cáceres?

Cáceres is a historic city well worth exploring. Pilgrims can decide whether to spend the night here and enjoy its rich cultural heritage by visiting landmarks like the Plaza Mayor, Concatedral de Santa María, Torre de Bujaco, and the Provincial Archaeological Museum. Cáceres has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the most important stops on the Camino de Santiago.

From Cáceres to Casar de Cáceres: Following the Camino

Once we leave Cáceres behind, we head towards Casar de Cáceres, a small village located about 10 kilometers north of the city. We begin by following the road and then take a parallel track, following the signs of the Camino de Santiago until we reach our destination.

Cáceres has a fascinating history, with origins dating back to the Upper Paleolithic. During Roman times, the city was already an important settlement, but it was in the Middle Ages that it consolidated as a key center, especially under the influence of the Order of Santiago. Many of the palaces and noble houses in the city date from the 14th century and are testaments to its splendor. Additionally, the legacy of the conquest of the Americas is also reflected in its monuments.

Casar de Cáceres: A Charming Village

Casar de Cáceres is a picturesque village with traditional architecture, featuring whitewashed facades with granite framing. Among its architectural curiosities, we find brick arches that connect streets, creating a unique atmosphere.

This village has several hermitages, dedicated to Santiago, San Bartolomé, the Martyrs, and Soledad, which form part of its religious heritage. Additionally, the Casar de Cáceres bus station, designed by architect Justo Gracia, is a notable example of modern architecture.
