Departure from Olveiroa: Towards Logoso

The Camino de Santiago starts in Olveiroa, passing by a fountain with a washhouse. From there, we skirt the Olveira and Castelo reservoirs until we reach Logoso, a stretch that offers beautiful river landscapes and spectacular views of the meanders of the Xallas River.

Hospital de Logoso and the Camiño Real

After passing through the Hospital de Logoso, which takes its name from the ancient pilgrims’ hospitals, we head towards the road that connects this village to Cée. From here, we follow the old Camiño Real, which leads us away from the inhabited areas and takes us to the hermitages of Nosa Señora das Neves and San Pedro Mártir, in the Cee territory. The route continues to the Alto do Cruceiro da Armada, the first point from which we can see the sea and the horizon marked by the silhouette of Cabo Finisterre.

Arrival in Cée and Corcubión

In Cée, we cross the road that connects the town to Brens and head towards Corcubión, a town of great historical and artistic value. Its old town and the Church of San Marcos, in Gothic style, are highlights. From Corcubión, we head towards the village of Vilar, passing by a crossroads until we reach San Pedro da Redonda. This area also has a municipal albergue in Vilar.

Descent to the Estorde Inlet and Fisterra

From A Redonda, we descend to the Estorde Inlet, the last place before entering the Concello of Fisterra. We climb a detour in Sardiñeiro until we begin the ascent of Monte Seoane. From its summit, we descend to the viewpoint of Talón, where we can enjoy impressive views of the Promontorium Nerium and the famous Fisterra Tombolo. After the viewpoint, the route descends to the Praia de Talón and takes us back to the regional road.

Alternative Route to Enter Fisterra

Some pilgrims choose an alternative route that passes through Escaselas, taking a detour towards San Martiño and reaching A Charca. This option allows us to enter Fisterra via the Camiño de Barcia, an old stretch of the Camiño Real, which connects directly to Avenida Alcalde Fernández, leading us to Cabo Finisterre.

Ritual at Cabo de Finisterre

The pilgrim arriving at Cabo de Finisterre performs a series of symbolic rituals, starting with a purifying bath at the Praia da Langosteira. Some prefer to do this at Mar de Fora, while watching the sunset. After this, the Albergue da Fin do Mundo is visited, where pilgrims receive the certificate of arrival at the Cabo.

Visit to the Lighthouse and the Burning Ritual

The most important step is walking to the Fisterra Lighthouse, where pilgrims often perform the burning ritual. This act, of pagan origin, symbolizes the end of the pilgrimage and the beginning of a new life. The pilgrim burns their boots and part of their clothing as a symbol of purification. Afterward, it is common to stay to watch the sunset, one of the most spectacular sights in Europe, and wait for the famous green flash while the lighthouse is lit.

End of the Camino: Visit to Monte Facho

After the rituals, many pilgrims opt to hike up Monte Facho via the southern slope, where they can enjoy magical views of Cabo Finisterre. It is also recommended to explore Promontorium Nerium, a historically rich and naturally beautiful area, with many mysterious spots and archaeological remains.

Conclusion: A Mystical End to the Camino

The final stage of the Camino de Santiago to Fisterra is a journey full of spirituality, nature, and tradition. Cabo Finisterre is, for many, the true end of the Camino, a place of connection with history, Galician culture, and the ancient beliefs of pilgrims. The purification rituals and the sunset at the Cabo provide a unique experience, making this destination an unforgettable closure for those who complete the route.
