CF30 - Triacastela - Sarria - 22 km

Distance22 Km.

Stage of the Camino de Santiago: From Triacastela to Sarria

In this stage of the Camino de Santiago, pilgrims have two options to reach Sarria. Here, the historical and most direct route is described, which passes through the solitary and picturesque San Xil valley, crossing forgotten villages and corredoiras (ancient paths), surrounded by a natural tunnel of slate and oak trees.

Departure from Triacastela: Route to San Xil

From the Plaza do Concello in Triacastela, the Camino splits, and pilgrims take the path to the right, following the course of the Valdoscuro stream. This ancient path, shaded by birches, oaks, chestnuts, and poplars, offers a peaceful atmosphere as it continues towards Balsa.

Ascent to the Alto de Riocabo

From Balsa, the path ascends to a paved track near a modern pilgrim's fountain, before reaching San Xil. Here, the settlement is left behind, and the ascent continues until reaching the Alto de Riocabo. From this point, a corredoira to the right leads to another paved road at the entrance of Montán. The scattered village is crossed, and the journey continues until reaching Fontearcuda and then Furela.

Passing through Villages and Arrival in Sarria

From Furela, continue along the road, passing through Brea, Pintín, the church of San Esteban de Calvor, Aguiada, San Mamede, San Pedro do Camiño, and Vigo, which is now merged with Sarria.

Entering Sarria

Upon entering the heart of Sarria, cross the bridge over the Ouribio river and continue along the Rúa do Peregrino, passing by the Escalinata Mayor and the Rúa Mayor. The route concludes with an ascent to the Convento de las Magdalenas, home to the PP. Mercedarians.
