Stage of the Camino de Santiago: From Rabanal del Camino to Molinaseca
This stage of the Camino de Santiago offers a route filled with natural beauty and traditions, passing through historic villages and important monuments. Below, we detail the journey, ideal for pilgrims following the route to Compostela.
Ascent from Rabanal del Camino
The stage begins at Rabanal del Camino, taking a path to the right of the LE-142 road, which returns to the road in just over 1 km. The route continues ascending towards Monte Irago, surrounded by oaks, broom, and heather. As we progress, the view expands, and the nature of the Camino de Santiago offers us a unique experience.
Foncebadón and the Cruz de Ferro
Upon reaching km 27.5, the road is left to the left to cross the ruins of the abandoned Foncebadón. From here, the route continues ascending, passing by some ruins and a drinking water fountain. We continue circling a hill, and upon sighting the famous Cruz de Ferro, we return to the LE-142. The large platform of the cross and the hermitage of Santiago mark an iconic place on this section of the Camino de Santiago.
Manjarín and the Descent to Acebo
About 2.5 km from the Cruz de Ferro, the Camino reaches the ruins of Manjarín. From here, the Camino descends towards Acebo, crossing open fields. We then continue along the same LE-142, passing close to Riego de Ambrós.
Valley of the Arroyo Prado Mangas and Molinaseca
At Riego de Ambrós, upon reaching the village square, we turn right and descend towards the picturesque valley of the Arroyo Prado Mangas. We cross the valley and follow the course of the stream before rejoining the LE-142. A few metres further on, we leave the road to the right, descending into the valley of the Río de la Pretadura. We ascend to the right, surrounded by poplars and rockroses, to a promontory. We then circle this promontory and descend again towards the LE-142, entering the charming village of Molinaseca via its bridge over the Río Meruelo.
