CF23 - León - Villadangos del Páramo - 21,8 km

Distance22 Km.

Stage of the Camino de Santiago: From León to Villadangos del Páramo

This stage of the Camino de Santiago begins in León and takes us through nearby towns, following a varied route that offers beautiful landscapes and places of interest. Here we provide the details of the route from the Basilica of San Isidoro to Villadangos del Páramo.

Departure from León: From the Basilica of San Isidoro

To begin this stage, we leave León from the Basilica of San Isidoro, following the streets of Renueva and Suero de Quiñones until we reach the Hostal de San Marcos. From there, we cross the Bernesga River via the San Marcos Bridge.

Walking along the N-120: Trobajo del Camino

After crossing the river, we follow the N-120 route for just over 1 kilometre. Then, we leave the road to the left, taking a parallel path that leads us to Trobajo del Camino. At this point, we cross the N-120 again and continue along a path that ascends towards the Virgen del Camino.

Ascent to the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Camino

Before reaching the bend that leads to the Virgen del Camino, we cross the N-120 again and take a path to the right, ascending to a rise crowned by a cross. From there, we continue along the road-adjacent path until we reach the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Camino, an iconic site on the route to Compostela.

The Páramo and the Vallejo del Arroyo Fruevano

From the sanctuary, we follow the N-120 for a short distance before taking a path to the left that skirts the local cemetery. This path crosses the arid Páramo, a characteristic landscape of this stage of the Camino de Santiago, before descending to the vallejo of the Arroyo Fruevano, where we return to the N-120 near the junction with the A-66 motorway.

Valverde de la Virgen and San Miguel del Camino

We continue along the N-120 for 2 kilometres until we reach Valverde de la Virgen, crossing the Oncina and Raposeras streams. A kilometre later, upon entering San Miguel del Camino, we leave the road to the right and follow a parallel street until we exit the town. Then, we cross the road to continue along a parallel path for approximately 8 kilometres.

Arrival at Villadangos del Páramo

The final stretch of this stage of the Camino de Santiago takes us to Villadangos del Páramo, where we cross the Arroyo Valdecelada and enter the village. During this stretch, the path approaches the road at several points, but it always follows a defined route that ends in Villadangos.
