Descent from Roncesvalles to Burguete

The Camino de Santiago stage from Roncesvalles begins with a descent along the C-135 road until reaching Burguete, where the pilgrim can choose between two options to continue the route.

Option 1: Path by the Urrobi River

Once past the village, the pilgrim turns right, descending to an old bridge over the Urrobi River. After crossing it, the pilgrim continues along a dirt path that passes through a farming area until reaching Espinal.

Option 2: Route by the Road

Another option is to stay on the road, passing the turnoff for Garralda and crossing a second bridge over the Urrobi River. After this, the pilgrim turns right and takes a path that leads directly to Espinal, avoiding the curve in the road.

Ascent and Descent to Espinal

Upon reaching Espinal, the pilgrim takes a path to the left of the road, passing the village fountain. This path ascends to a conifer plantation, where it turns right, reaching the top surrounded by hazel trees, beeches, and brambles. From there, the descent towards the road begins.

Path towards Viscarret and Linzoáin

The path descends towards Viscarret, crossing the road a couple of times. After passing the cemetery, it continues parallel to the road and, after a while, turns right towards Linzoáin.

Ascent towards Alto del Erro

On leaving Linzoáin, a steep ascent begins through pines, beeches, and oaks until reaching the Alto del Erro. During the ascent, the slabs known as the Roland's Steps can be seen, a significant landmark on the Camino.

Descent to Zubiri

After crossing the road again, the pilgrim continues the descent until reaching Zubiri, where this stage of the Camino de Santiago ends.
